5 Days Kidepo National Park

5 Days Kidepo National Park

The 5 Days Kidepo Safari is a journey to Uganda’s most remote and untouched wilderness. Located in the far northeast near the borders with Kenya and South Sudan, Kidepo Valley National Park is celebrated for its dramatic landscapes, golden savannahs, rugged mountains, and some of the most diverse wildlife sightings in the country. Its isolation has preserved its raw beauty, making it a true gem for adventurous travelers.

The safari blends classic game drives with cultural exploration. You’ll track lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and elephants in the Narus Valley, visit the Karamojong communities to learn about their rich traditions, and marvel at the sweeping views of the Morungole Mountains. Kidepo’s seclusion ensures an intimate safari experience, away from the usual crowds, making it one of Africa’s last great wildernesses.

Your adventure begins with a scenic full-day drive north from Kampala. Along the way, you’ll pass through Luweero and the vast landscapes of northern Uganda, stopping for lunch in Gulu or Kitgum. The drive is long but rewarding, offering a glimpse into Uganda’s rural life and changing scenery. Arrive in Kitgum in the evening, where you’ll check into your accommodation and rest ahead of the journey to Kidepo.

After breakfast, continue the drive into Kidepo Valley National Park, entering through its rugged terrain. Upon arrival, check into your lodge and relax before heading out for your first game drive in Narus Valley. This area is rich in wildlife, and you can expect to see large herds of buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, and elephants. Predators like lions and cheetahs may also appear. End the day with a stunning sunset over the savannah.

Spend the day exploring the park’s two main ecosystems—Narus and Kidepo Valleys. The Narus Valley is a wildlife hotspot, especially in the dry season when animals gather around the remaining waterholes. Later, drive towards Kidepo Valley, where you’ll find ostriches, kudus, and sweeping views of the South Sudan borderlands. The day is filled with encounters with wildlife, breathtaking scenery, and the park’s unique sense of remoteness.

Step away from game drives to immerse yourself in culture. Visit a nearby Karamojong village to learn about their pastoral lifestyle, traditional dances, and homestead designs. The Karamojong are closely related to the Maasai of Kenya and still maintain many of their ancestral customs. This cultural interaction offers a deeper understanding of life in Uganda’s wild northeast. Return to the park for an evening game drive.

After breakfast, begin the long but scenic drive back to Kampala. Along the way, you’ll stop for meals and breaks, arriving in the evening with unforgettable memories of one of Uganda’s most extraordinary safari destinations
